Replay Poker’s volunteer team is special! They do everything from greet and assist players, moderate chat and our forum, translate the site to other languages, and even write content. Today, we’d like to highlight a new Player Rep: Meet Skirmish47!

We asked Skirmish47 a few questions, and you can read his answers below.

1) Tell us a bit about yourself! Where are you from? What are your interests?

I grew up in White Plains, NY, north of Manhattan. Studied music at Grinnell College in Iowa and the U. of Oregon, then journalism at Columbia U. I was an editor for a diverse string of magazines, mostly in NYC, and wrote regularly for The New York Times and other publications.

Moved to Canada in 2000, following my wife’s career in IT, which pays WAY better than journalism. A well-timed move, as just about then the Internet was killing print journalism dead. Have done some freelance writing and editing since then, but mainly I’ve been a daddy and a musician. I’ve played in a bunch of groups and theatre pits, sometimes paid, more often not. Music is just starting to get going again, and I’m eager to find out whether I remember how to play middle C# on the sax.

2) How did you get interested in poker? How skilled do you feel you are now?

I started playing regularly in a family/social game after I began working in NY. The usual stakes were $2-$7-$10. I did okay. When I contacted Patrick [Replay’s volunteer coordinator] recently, I described myself as “intermediate.” After the past few weeks at the Replay tables, I’d edit that downward.

My current comfort level on RP is 100K–250K tournaments and 1K-2K ring games. NL Hold ’em and Omaha Hi-Lo.

3) How did you find Replay Poker? What made you decide to become a volunteer?

I began playing online poker (not for real $$) a year or so back, mainly on a site called Casino World, but I began to look round for something more extensive and realistic. It didn’t take long to find RP. After growing familiar with the site and meeting a bunch of player reps and moderators, getting more involved began to look like fun. And it is!

4) Anything else that you’d like to share with players?

Skirmish is the name of, as Monty Python would say, an ex-cat. Forty-seven is my favourite number.
